Dieses Jahr hätte die MAYDAY am 01. Mai um 14h30 am Platz der Menschenrechte beim Marcus Omofuma Gedenkstein starten sollen. Stattdessen wird der Sammlungsort nun bei der U4 Kettenbrückengasse – Ausgang Naschmarkt sein. Die Uhrzeit bleibt gleich. Teilt die Info!
Der ursprünglich geplante Versammlungsort wurde von der Versammlungsbehörde LPD Wien untersagt, da sich dort am selben Tag rechtsextreme Verschwörungstheoretiker treffen. Wir haben alternativ dazu versucht, verschiedene Orte anzumelden:

All diese Orte wurden von der LPD als “dort findet schon etwas statt” oder (ohne weitere Begründung) mit “das ist nicht möglich” abgelehnt.
Als Demobündnis finden wir das sehr seltsam und ein problematisches Verhalten der Vereinsbehörde. Gerne würde uns interessieren, was an all diesen Orten am 1. Mai alles stattfindet. Helft uns, das beim Weg zur Demonstration zu dokumentieren, da wir uns nicht vorstellen können, dass alle diese Orte tatsächlich mit Veranstaltungen oder Kundgebungen belegt sind.
Wir finden es skandalös, dass uns so ein zentralerer und belebter Ort für den Start der gemeinsamen 1. Mai-Demonstration verhindert wurde. Der Sammlungsort ist an einem Feiertag ein abgelegener Parkplatz. Da wir auf unserer Demonstration auch dem am 1. Mai durch die Polizei ermordeten Marcus Omofuma gedenken wollen, hat der Platz der Menschenrechte für uns einen direkten thematischen Bezug, da dort auch das Marcus Omofuma Denkmal steht. Auch für mögliche andere Orte gab es Begründungen. Einmal mehr wird damit eine solidarische Demonstration, die sich gegen prekäre Arbeit & Lebensbedingungen richtet bereits im Vorfeld grundlos schikaniert.
Wir treffen uns am 1. Mai am Parkplatz – dafür, dass Parkplätze ebenso wie Kapitalismus, Patriarchat und Rassismus bald Geschichte ist. Denn unter dem Pflaster – da liegt der Strand. MAYDAY 2023 – das gute Leben für Alle erkämpfen!

noch einige Informationen zur Demonstration:
– Die Demonstration soll einen offenen und vielfältigen, bunten Ausdruck haben.
– Bitte beachtet maximal 2 Fahnen mit Logo pro parteipolitische Orga auf die Demo mitzunehmen. Für einen starken gemeinsamen Ausdruck achtet darauf, dass der Banner nach außen (Seitenbanner) gerichtet ist und nicht in der Demo nach vorne hin getragen werden. Sollten Gruppen Interesse haben bei der Demonstration einen Infostand aufzubauen, dann kündigt das bitte vorher bei der Mayday an.
– Wir haben diesen 1. Mai einen Fokus auf die Mobilisierung von neuen jungen Menschen gelegt, die wenig Erfahrung in der politischen Arbeit haben. Als solches bitten wir erfahrene Demoteilnehmer_innen um einen verständnisvollen und solidarischen Umgang mit unerfahrenen Menschen.
– Es gibt zudem einen Kinderblock auf der Demonstration, beachtet diesen Block und tragt mit dazu bei, dass alle gut an der Demo teilnehmen können.
– Wenn es Personen gibt, die freie Ressourcen haben am 1. Mai, kommt zum Demo-Wagen, wir haben Support Aufgaben (wie Flyer an Passant_innen verteilen) für euch!

The originally planned meeting place was prohibited by the authority for rallies LPD Vienna, because far-right conspiracy theorists meet there on the same day. We tried to announce different locations as an alternative:

All these places were rejected by the LPD as “something is already taking place there” or (without further justification) with “that is not possible”.
As a demo alliance, we find this very strange and a problematic behavior of the authoritys. We would like to know what is going on in all these places on May 1st. Help us to document this on the way to the demonstration, because we can not imagine that all these places are actually occupied with events or rallies.
We find it scandalous that we were thus prevented a more central and lively place for the start of the collective May Day demonstration. The place of gathering is a remote parking lot on a holiday. Since we also want to commemorate Marcus Omofuma, who was murdered by the police on May 1, on our demonstration, the Human Rights Square has a direct thematic reference for us, since the Marcus Omofuma monument is also located there. There were also reasons for possible other places. Once again, a solidarity demonstration that is directed against precarious work & living conditions is already harassed in advance for no reason.
We meet on May 1st at the parking lot – for the fact that parking lots as well as capitalism, patriarchy and racism will soon be history. Because under the pavement – there lays the beach. MAYDAY 2023 – fight for the good life for all!

Some more information about the demo:
– The demo should have an open and diverse, multicolored expression.
– Please note to bring a maximum of 2 flags with logo per party-political organization to the demo. For a strong common expression, make sure that the banner is facing outward (side banner) and not carried forward in the demo. If any groups are interested in setting up an information table at the demonstration, please announce it beforehand at the Mayday.
– We have placed a focus this Mayday on mobilizing new young people who have maybe little experience in political work. As such, we ask experienced demo participants to be understanding and show solidarity with inexperienced people.
– There is also a children’s block on the demonstration, pay attention to this block and help ensure that everyone can participate well in the demo.
– If there are people who have free resources on May 1st, come to the demo wagon, we have support tasks (like handing out flyers to pedestrians) for you!
